The new city Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, is a newly developed and populated city in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir. It’s not a, in fact, new city, but New City Mirpur is a sub-city in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir. The city is developed after the upraising project of Mangla Dam in 2006.
The upraising project of Mangla Dam was started in 2006. As a result, hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris who were living in the surrounding of Mangla Dam had to evacuate their homes. So the government of Azad Kashmir and WAPDA arranged their residence in the shape of New City Mirpur. The new city Mirpur is located almost 10 km from the centre of Mirpur city.
