Problems of Agri Sector of Pakistan

agriculture sector of Pakistan is currently facing lots of problems due to the incomplete, inefficient policies of the policy makers of this country. Currently, the suffering of the peasants of Pakistan are due to the closure of Afghanistan-Pakistan border and stoppage of agricultural products export to Afghanistan and other countries. Resultantly, the price of crops dropped drastically, which resulted in the loss of farmers in one way or the other way. Like we have seen in the very recent past that the prices of potatoes dropped drastically, which resulted in the loss of billions of rupees of the farmers, especially in Punjab and generally the rest of the Pakistan. To cope this situation, the government should take the necessary actions to help out the farmers to come out of the situation. Why farmers are facing problems in Pakistan? The farmers of Pakistan are facing agricultural-related problems due to one or the other reason. Recently, the fuel prices have been increased due to the ongoing Iran-US war. This resulted in the high cultivation and production cost for the farmers because the diesel price has been increased and majority of the farmers use diesel in their agriculture machinery for production, cultivation, and pest control machinery, etc. In this way, the cost of production has been increased due to the rise in the prices of petrol. Similarly, the closure of Afghanistan border due to the security reason is another major reason for Pakistani farmers to face lots of problems and financial crisis. Due to the closure of the Afghanistan border, the agri-products of Pakistan are unable to export to Afghanistan, which has resulted in the leftover of agriculture products in Pakistan and abundance of agriculture products, which further resulted in the high production and low consumption. This economic scenario has resulted in the low price of agriculture products and a serious financial crisis for the farmers of Pakistan. To cope with the situation, the government has not taken any serious efforts or steps. to help out the farmers. Similarly, the high cost of fertilizer is another reason for the farmers in Punjab and Pakistan to face the problem of high cost production. So, they are facing the inflation and high production costs as compared to the regional partners. In this way, they are unable to sell low-cost agricultural products to the region and export high-quality products at low cost. Whereas on the other side, the regional partners like India, Bangladesh, and other countries are selling agreed products to other countries and exporting these products at a very low cost.
