Army of Pakistan – Services Chief Tenure is Extended up to 5 Years. On Monday 4th of November 2024, the Lower House of Pakistan passed the bill to extend the tenure of all three services chiefs of the Pakistan forces. Such as, the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, and Chief of Air Staff.
Previously, the tenure of these three posts was three (03) years. In a hurried move of PML (N) adopted the bill for the amendment of the Pakistan Army Act 1952.
This bill will, in fact, bring the amendment in all three acts of the Pakistan military forces. For instance, the Pakistan Army Act, 1952, the Pakistan Navy Ordinance, 1961, and the Pakistan Air Force Act, 1953. (Also Read: IG Punjab Abdul Kareem)
Who Presented Services Chief Tenue Extension Bill?
Khawaja Asif, the Defence Minister of Pakistan, has presented the bill to the Lower House of Pakistan. The bill was adopted with the help of the majority members of PML (N) and other allied members from the treasury benches.
Services Chief in Pakistan, Army, Navy & Air Force
- Chief of Army Staff: First of all, General Asim Munir has held this position since November 29, 2022. His tenure typically spans three years, making his expected service end date November 2025, barring any extensions or changes. Moreover, on the other side due to the passing of new amendment the tenure of new Army cheif has now extended upto the 5 years.
- Chief of Naval Staff: Secondly, Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi assumed command on October 7, 2020. His tenure was extended in 2023, allowing him to continue leading the Pakistan Navy until October 2024. This was happened when he was going to retire.
- Chief of Air Staff: Thirdly, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu took over on March 18, 2021. His service was extended for an additional year in March 2024, likely concluding his tenure in March 2025. This was also the unusual event when the tenure of an Air Chief was extended.
- Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee: This post in Pakistan Military is also of very important in its nature. This post is unique in its nature. Furthermore, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza has been the Joint Chief since November 27, 2022. His tenure, typically lasting three years, should extend to November 2025.
