Chehlum Imam Hussain (RA) in Pakistan will be on 15th of August 2025. The event is observed annually in Pakistan with grief and sorrow. Because this event is in commemoration of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW).

Chehlum or Arbaeen Event

Arbaeen, which means forty, is the 40th day of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his family in Iraq in 61 Hijri. The martyrdom of Imam Hussain was done on the order of Yazid. Yazid was the leader at that time of the Muslim State.

Events of Chehlum in Pakistan and World

In Pakistan, the day of Chehlum is observed with sorrow and grief by all the muslims. Especially by the Shia sect of Muslims. In Pakistan, the gathering of people outside of their homes is less compared to the events of the 10th of Moharram i.e., the day of martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). In many big cities of Pakistan processions are recorded. In Karachi and Lahore hundreds of thousands people start the same gathering as on 10th of Moharram.

For instance, in Lahore, people start the Arbaeen walk from Thokar Niaz Baig and reach to famous center Gamay Shah near Data Darbar to show solidarity with the martyred Imam Hussain and his Family.

Chehlum Imam Hussain 2026 Pakistan

Chehlum is also known as Arbaeen. It is the observance that occurs 40 days after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), that is Ashura, of Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his companions in the battle of Karbala, 61 AH, 680 CE.

Moreover, the event of Karbala is a major event in Islamic history, and Chehlum is the 40th day after of that Karbala event. The event is a symbol of truth, deterrence against the tyrant, and courage.

Further, the day is observed by the Muslims and especially by the Shia community across the world. The Chehlum date in 2026 in Pakistan is on Tuesday, 4th August 2026, with a variance of one to two days. The Islamic date of that day is 20th Safar 1448 AH.

Chehlum day is observed on the 40th day after Ashura. The Chehlum is observed all over the state of Pakistan, especially in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar. And there are mourning processions in cities. Moreover, there are also majlis arranged by the Shia community, and prayers and recitations are also organized.

Arbaeen Walk

The Arbaeen walk is very famous among the Shia Muslim community, especially in Iraq and Iran. The Arbaeen means the fortieth day. It is the fortieth day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS). The day is observed on the fortieth (40th) day after Ashura.

Moreover, the day is a symbol of remembrance, loyalty, devotion, strength of Imam Hussain (A.S). that he stood for justice, righteousness, and truth. On this Arbaeen day, people walk towards Karbala in Iraq and in many other states towards the religious places such as mosques or Imam Bargah.

Further, the Shia community walks towards their holy sites. In Iraq, millions of pilgrims walk barefoot from Kufa, Najaf, and from other cities towards the shrine of Imam Hussain (AS). In Pakistan, the Shia community also walks towards their religious centers barefoot.

Moharam is the first month of the Islamic Calendar. The month is very famous among Muslims all over the world because Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of the Holy Prophet (SAW), was martyred in this month.
