Brief Facts about NATO
NATO is a military alliance that was formed in 1949 to counter the USSR’s aggression during the Cold War period. In the start, it consisted of North America and 12 European States, which were later enhanced. Moreover, one other purpose was the security in the North Atlantic region. Further, Finland and Sweden are the latest states that have joined NATO in the year 2023 and, 2024 respectively. They joined NATO after the Russian attack on Ukraine. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, is the alliance, military alliance of 32 nations as of April 2026. This is a military collective security alliance that was emerged after the World War II. In fact it was a block against the communism and now it is one of the big blocks, military blocks in the world. By the joining of Sweden in March 7, 2024 and Finland in 2023, now the total members of NATO have been reached to 32. The important members of NATO are Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and United Kingdom.
